Gift cards and store credit

Gift cards and store credit pay at the till like any other method, and are kept as a ledger of what you owe.

How it works

  • The owner issues a card

Set an amount, and optionally a recipient and an expiry date. The code is shown once; Tamem keeps only a hash of it and its last 4 characters.

  • Credit is held per customer

Each change to a customer’s store credit carries a reason. Credit also comes from a resolved service case and from referral rewards, which credit both people.

  • Spent at the till

The cashier takes a gift card or store credit like any other payment, alone or split with others. Each goes through in full or not at all, and a resend after an offline retry never charges twice.

  • What you owe, on record

A report shows what is still owed on cards and credit. Expired cards are swept nightly and refused at checkout, and the owner can void a card with a reason.

The rules

Who may change it
Only the owner issues, voids or adjusts. Staff can see cards and balances.
VAT
Issuing a card records no payment and no invoice. VAT applies when the card is spent.
In the customer app
Customers see their gift cards and store credit in a read-only wallet.
When it’s on
When the shop answers in setup that it sells gift cards or holds credit for customers. It isn’t tied to a plan.
Not included
Selling a gift card at the till, putting a refund back onto a card or store credit, and store credit on a sale with no customer.
